About the Artist
When a friend invited Jennifer to a glass bead making class, little did she know that it would lead to a new obsession. The lure of the flames was too much to resist and she found herself immersed in an art that became for her an unrestricted creative outlet. Not limited by pre-conceived notions of what was "possible" she began to explore sculptural forms in glass, as well as traditional beads.
When she started putting her glass into jewelry, she found commercial findings to be limiting, so metalwork became the next logical step. While both mediums require flame, once glass is annealed, it cannot take the heat of metal soldering, so finding the perfect cold connection is a constant challenge.
While no stranger to creative pursuits, as a life-long musician, writer and seamstress; the freedom of working with the glass and metal gave her a feeling of being re-born in the very flames that gave her the power to give shape to her vision: a phoenix rising from the conflagration, pouring out its song in a paen of pure creative joy. What better name then for her to work under than Singing Phoenix Designs?
